Gymnastics and Great Grandma

Great grandma Dorothy stopped by for a visit yesterday. Even though it has been a while since Sonya saw her, they became fast friends. Then again, Sonya will love anyone who will read her story. Poor Grandma got stuck reading Horton Hears A Who, though she did quite well despite the rhyming kangaroos. :)

Catherine has been doing first level gymnastics for the last few months. She finally got the confidence to enjoy the balance beams and hang from the bars (though she never did like the rings). With each lesson, she would try all stations once and then bypass the less enjoyable ones. I think, if anything, Catherine got some confidence in herself. I don't think I'll be signing her up for the next set of lessons though. We are going to try unparented dance in the fall. And swimming. Lots of swimming. She isn't afraid of putting her face in the water and blowing bubbles. Here are the pictures I took of Catherine participating in her last class of Gymnatots at the University of Calgary.

Talking with her instructor Katie. We were lucky to have her.

Though technically she is supposed to lift he bum, I'm just glad she finally sat on the thing

All the kids loved these foam mats, but they weren't used during the lessons. That didn't stop most kids from enjoying a good run and tumble.

What would gymnastics be without a trampoline?

A definite favourite

A Bum drop.....she is so close to being able to bounce back to her feet....

June Fun

Ah! Summer here at last. Catherine finished her first gymnastics course and the family finished our first parent and tot swimming class. Now we are looking forward to our visit to the coast. Catherine is doing very well with her potty training (she had mom worried there for awhile) and Sonya seems quite interested in what big sister is doing. Might we goodbye to diapers before the new year? I can only hope!

We had a nice play date with Loni, Rosa & Alberta last week. Here are some pictures from that day. The girls played in the sandbox, watered some flowers (and the grass) and ran in circles while the moms just enjoyed the sunshine. We had a great time and hope to do it again soon.

Poor Loni was responsible for filling up the watering cans. She had three. What a smart woman!

Poppa recently returned from the Caribbean. He brought back some lovely gifts, including this dress for Catherine

Catherine received a Groovy Doll from some friends of ours (Thank you Satyro Family!) and while she happily played with her new toy, Sonya was very quiet. Probably trying to figure out why Catherine kept on getting all these cool new toys. Glen and I decided that Sonya deserved a Groovy Doll as well. This is the one she choose.
